MIMIXIONG SOURCING JOURNAL
A practical guide to sourcing baby clothing
Plan your babywear sourcing brief, compare specifications, approve samples and agree a wholesale production quote.

Start with the product, not the price
A useful sourcing brief explains what you need to sell and where you plan to sell it. Choose the product categories, size range, season, yarn or fabric requirements and packaging. Include expected quantities by size and color. A precise brief makes supplier quotations easier to compare because each supplier can respond to the same specification.
Choose existing designs or custom development
Existing wholesale styles can provide a starting point for a first collection. Review the material, measurements and available colors for each product. If your brand needs its own design, discuss OEM development and supply a technical specification. If you want to adapt an existing style, discuss ODM options, the allowed changes and any agreement about design ownership.
Request a sample and record what you approve
Photographs help you shortlist products, but they do not replace a sample. Review the actual yarn composition, feel, measurements, fastening details, labeling and packaging. Record the approved size chart and tolerances. Ask how the factory will compare bulk production with the approved sample and how any changes will be communicated.
Compare the complete quotation
Ask for the currency, unit price, minimum order quantities, sample charges, customization costs and quotation validity. Confirm whether quantities can be mixed across sizes and colors. Ask what is included in the packing and shipping terms, and separate product costs from transport and other charges so the comparison is clear.
Confirm destination requirements before production
Tell the supplier your destination market and ask for documents relevant to the exact product. Work with an appropriate testing or compliance specialist where needed. A certificate for another product, material or factory process may not answer your product-specific requirements. Agree on the evidence you need before approving bulk production.
Build a realistic production and shipping schedule
Allow time for sampling, revisions, approval, manufacturing, inspection and transport. Confirm which event starts the production lead time, such as receipt of a deposit or approval of the final sample. Agree on inspection arrangements and shipping documents in advance. For repeat orders, retain the approved sample and specification so the next quotation starts from the same reference.
Build your sourcing brief
Explore the wholesale collection, choose the designs you like and prepare an enquiry with your quantity, destination and customization requirements.
