What to ask before ordering wholesale baby knitwear

A buyer’s checklist for yarn composition, measurements, colors, minimum quantities, samples and packing before a wholesale knitwear order.

What to ask before ordering wholesale baby knitwear

What is the exact yarn composition?

Ask for percentages rather than a general description such as soft knit. Cotton, acrylic and blended yarns can create different product characteristics and care requirements. Confirm that the quotation and sample use the same composition. If the product description does not identify its fiber content, treat that as a question to resolve before ordering.

How are the sizes measured?

A size number may refer to height, age or a supplier-specific scale. Ask for a measurement chart showing garment length, chest, sleeve and other relevant points. Confirm measurement tolerances and which sample size you will receive. For blankets, request finished dimensions; for hats and booties, ask for their actual measurements instead of relying on a generic size label.

Which colors and quantities are available?

Specify the quantity for each size and color. Ask whether an existing yarn color is available, whether a custom color requires development and whether minimum quantities apply per style, color or size. Review physical color references when color consistency matters, and confirm the process for approving substitutions.

Which details need sample approval?

Inspect knitting density, seam finishing, buttons or other fasteners, trims, labels and packaging. Check the inside as well as the front of the garment. Agree a written specification and ask the manufacturer to identify any material or construction change before production. Product photos are a design reference, while the approved sample establishes the actual order standard.

What does the wholesale quote include?

Confirm sample fees, unit prices, labeling, packing, inspection arrangements and shipment terms. Request a quotation validity period and a schedule for deposits and any balance payments. Ask what happens if the inspected goods do not meet the approved specification. Keep the order terms, sample approval and product specification together.

What should accompany the shipment?

Agree on carton quantities, size and color labeling, packing lists and the documents required for your shipment. Tell the supplier about your destination and any retailer-specific packaging rules. Review current product documents with a suitable specialist where needed. Ask for confirmation of the final dispatch schedule rather than treating a general website lead time as an order commitment.
